ARTICULA\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The ARTICULA project started in 2002 at the workshop of Teresa Milheiro, in a building facing Lisbon\u2019s Customs in Alfama. Back then her time was divided between her personal art work and the collections she created for different Institutions and Museums through Archeofactu, the Company she was working with.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The name ARTICULA emerges from her own work due to the permanent and almost obsessive use of articulations, connections, and movement.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In 2007, Teresa Milheiro opens the Gallery ARTICULA at Rua dos Rem\u00e9dios 102, in Alfama, together with the company she was working.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u00a0In 2008 they end the partnership and Teresa Milheiro becomes the Director of the Gallery.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This multi-faceted space included a gallery, a workshop, and a store.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The focus was the valuation of handcraft, the unique piece, allowing passers-by to observe how the work is done, the different techniques used, privileging that connection between creator and end consumer.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The works were carefully exhibited at the different spaces of the gallery in a continuous dialogue.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In 5 years, Teresa Milheiro promoted over 15 exhibitions, both of her work and of more than 40 artists of several nationalities, being the theme mainly jewellery, but also including photography and installation. She also organised and carried out several workshops.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Gallery ARTICULA closed its doors in 2012 and reopened in 2015 as a workshop in the premises of S\u00e1 da Costa, Pra\u00e7a Lu\u00eds de Cam\u00f5es 22-4\u00ba D, in Chiado. The virtual gallery is also online on Facebook as Galeria ARTICULA.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Genius loci<\/em>\u00a0is a Latin term referring to the \u201cspirit of the place\u201d, to the genie of the place inhabited and visited by man and that was an object of object in the Roman religion.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In Thailand it is common to be placed at the entrance of a newly built house, a spirit house, because it is believed that the spirits already inhabiting the place must be granted shelter before the arrival of the new owner. According to this belief, these can cause problems if the owner does not own one.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Playing with the idea of the genie\u2019s place, the protective spirit, of the mysterious and the video surveillance, I created a collection entitled \u201cGenius Lab\u201d, composed by 6 necklaces. They are made up with fluorescent, metallized Plexiglas test tubes, silhouettes and compositions with images, some of them already eaten by bibliophile insects, which were taken from a German catalogue of optical mechanisms and instruments from the 1900 international exhibition in Paris, which I found in an abandoned house.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
